In today's episode we're making some huge improvements on my 30 year old Italian yacht.
Huge thanks to Garmin www.garmin.com/en-US/ for the support with our new chart plotter and sonar.

If I were you I would get a Furuno radar in case you go offshore with the boat.
Maintenance = Uprgrades ?
I used to detail boats once many years ago , feel yout pain on all that buffing LOL
You should also have some basic knowledge of marine lighting requirements and anchoring. What was that about wrapping the hull? You do know that you can spray on a new coat of gelcoat and buff it again right? Don't ever anchor a boat from the aft end. don't forget to send out the anchor for plating or it will be solid rust in a month. I do like the shine it looks good
B is for BOAT but that means Brake Out Another Thousand good thing you have a lot of sponsors ! Say how much do you want for those LSs that didn't quite work out for you.
This is one of my favourite shows ,, Iv learnt so much from this series ,, I find this tremendously inspiring
Always keep your boat original
Chris, I use to do marine electronics here on the east coast for several years. When I got out of it a few years ago the upgrading of electronics is huge. Unfortunately the old stuff is very large and leaves very big holes in dashes as you can see. We were doing a lot of starboard panels to flush the equipment back in instead of having the hole refiberglassed. The mounting plate you made is very professional and you may have something there.
WOW !!! LOVE THE PRINT, you own the print or you sent to print in somewhere ??
B is for Beunhaas...
I think that reasons behind 24V system is long run of wires and voltage drop not that it's a European model. I don't know anything about boats maybe I'm wrong.
leave the Meguira's on the shelf. look for TR-3 resin or any gel resin.
The sanding of oxidation off the boat is called color sanding, cheaper and faster than polishing
YACHT ? Type in google "YACHT" then "Images" , you`ll then see you don`t have a " YACHT "
The smoke be like: I'm a rolling thunder, pouring rain...
How long is your boat
I have watched these videos out of their intended order and it breaks my heart to think that at this stage the starboard engine was probably in good condition but the seeds of its doom were there and someone knew! A couple of hours work could have saved it if you guys were just told. I still hope that you do recondition the old engine over time because after all the gasoline fuelled fun you can retain the option to realise the full value of that beautiful boat with its vintage but practical diesels.
28:53 Apparently Chris can't tell the difference between FOB and P!ATD, even when the stereo says High Hopes. LMAO
Tell antifa to stop setting fires
You need to Vapor Home all that corroded metal. Works much faster and the finish will be better. You can do it by hand, but just take it all off and pay someone $50-100 to VHT it = much less work and a better result. Maybe a minute of VHT for each piece.
Looks awesome
Use LEDs if possible
Yo he is motivated and that’s so cool
Your boat ain’t even that big bro
That boat is gorgious cant imagin what a new boat like this would coast .but this boat is way better looking then any modern boat id take it out of watter and inspect it they are great looking boat im make. Guess and say a boat like this is over 150,000
Fun little tidbit. Those engines are also in the AAV that I operated in the military. Lots of torque.
He just didn’t like the color lol
Rust stains everywhere after using that shitty anchor once, guaranteed
Itz sad 2 see ur childhood memories going down in flames this ix as a result of failure of ur gov 2 regulate co2 emmisions in ur country...... #GREEN
You cant Call this a yacht, this is a cabin cruiser
booze barge
Please don't show welding work in your videos - the brightness is burning holes in my computer screen. LOL
I'd recommend you trying to use either Fusion 360 or Onshape for CAD Design. Both are pretty simple to use, and I believe low cost. I personally love Solidworks but a license for that is pretty expensive. Good Luck with the build!
not a hater but, I don't think you should wear your everyday shoes in the boat. No wonder the white is all dark and nasty now... just saying
"Hard will be the learning curve with this one," says Yoda. Zinc plated chain instead of galvanized, home made anchor (they are precision devices when made correctly), 3/8" nylon line for an anchor rode (not a misspelling) on a 44' boat, wooden box assembled with staples that are almost certainly made of carbon steel just waiting to rust, depth transducer seems to be attached to an interior surface instead of the outer hull (maybe I'm wrong). The zinc lighting fixtures will be shiny for a while but corrosion is like cancer; hard to eliminate. You need to connect with some people that know as much about boats as you do cars. Oh, wait. They've already commented below. Boats live in a very unforgiving environment but at least you're removed form the salt until you head toward the ocean. Seriously, a few mistakes early on will make you realize why marine grade items are so expensive compared to household and automotive grade items. You will soon value the higher quality items and want nothing else. Owning 17 boats over the years in a saltwater environment taught me a great deal.
Would have spares of those LED bulbs I don’t trust them for a second on a boat
Finally, the vid came out
upgrades and cleaning look great!
The smoke as from all the riots. They are burning down your so called shitty. I mean city
It's Italian of course it has got electrical issues.
You should add a sound ring around the light bar. Seen that on a lot of boats.
IVE WAITED SO LONG FOR THE BOAT VIDEOS ! 😭 THANK YOU
I didn’t here you say that your replacement LED navigation lights are Coast Guard approved
Are you using MeGuiar's Marine Products or their car products? There is a difference. They make a Marine Gel Wash
yes I'm glad u finally do some more work on the boat I love this boat
Transducer, cool. You can time travel now. Please fix things. Thanks.
I'm no expert, but you shouldn't use 2 anchors. the circling motion you complain is normal and shouldn't be stopped...
Hell yea, building an anchor B is for buils style
Put that sandpaper away. Gelcoat is very thin. Light compounding is enough.
It is so cute that he calls this a yacht, sweet man
Good stuff. BTW, it is oxidation.
you dont pressure wash an old gelco.
dont use shit for sound in a boat, use only Fusion. Have tried all of them and dont last much. Fusion are really the guy for this job
you need some advise on this ... let me tell you why 1) that boat is the rollsroyce of the boats. Riva is just an extraordinary brand and its tradition is centenary. Make your homework about the brand and you would be surprise. As a matter of fact a riva yacht cost 2-3 times more than any equivalent brand. dont make weird adaptations bro !! buy real marine stuff , no home made anchors and that kind of stuff !! I repeat, this is a rollsroyce , not a 89 chevy malibu you dont uses shoes on board !!! change all bulbs for LED bulbs. Nice chartplotter. your team is working the boat as a Mack truck. It is not a Mack truck. Some riva boat, specially the classic wood ones are sold really expensive. Try to handle this professional and according the kind of boat. Look advise from some local picky anal yacht fan like me, so you mix his knowledge on the boat with your ability to put things to work !!! Your team can be good for repair cars and so. This is not a car, and it is WAY more dangerous when they fail. Look for the right people to do the repairs and put the necessary money on the project. The final product and the personal reward would be immense ... promise you that ! Would love to be able to help you !! Cheers !
Rule of thumb the chain should be at the least the length of the boat
Bro, I had the episode where you bought the boat, in my “save for later” or “watch later” for over a year!!!! And you still having trouble! Dayummm! That’s tough. Good luck tho!! Seriously! Ik how it can be sometimes with projects.
Ive seen this boat in Portland it is definitely a nice boat.
Wait y’all have a JoAnns Fabric in Oregon? I thought that it was just a New England thing.
You got a massive bargain on that boat. They still fetch a fortune in europe
Alpine to JVC = DOWNGRADE!
Loving the boat vids!!! Please do more to your boat! Love watching!
restoring the throttle and transmission handles could have been it's own episode. Should be lots of places that can rechrome them.
Making an anchor out of steel a bad idea as it would rust
As soon as the "stern anchor" comment was made I knew it was going to be controversial.
Prayers for your family.
Buys a boat, complaining about pricing. When boat= Bust Out Another Thousand.
please for the love of god, get a radar back on your boat. There is a reason boats have it.
LOL, famous last words... "Its never been more seaworthy"
Love the boat episodes. Would love to have one like it.
Oxidation
Yay! Been waiting for an update on the Riva for a while.
Thats a boat not a yatch sorry
This is just hack work. If you cant afford a new Italian yacht, you definitely CANT afford a 30 yr old used Italian yacht.
Bruv DIYing an anchor will void your insurance. Saying "it is not worth money" is like saying "brembo/willwood brakes are not worth the expense". That anchor in a basket might be overkill for a row boat, but in terms of storm resistance for a boat your size... I'm not a sailor... but... Come on man, that is essential safety equipment. Use the proper equipment.
Your engine is going to shit itself!
Need to pull out all the gauges and buff out that grotty dash.
Yessss its back
Is that the old Harbor Freight power washer? I made a video on how to upgrade that with quick disconnects and longer hose.
Very talented guys for sure...nothing they cannot do, impressed.
Twin K24's with quad turbos??
Hey Chris.... i thought 2020 was the year B is for Build was making an Electric car??? where did i hear that before.. hmmmmm fistream.info/work/videot/bMKfoqvfZ3Wo3Gg lol... get off the boat!!!
If you sold this riva here in italy, you can do a lot of money
Oxidization huh?
No such word as oxidization (5 syllables)......it is oxidation (4 syllables).....you’re welcome😜
Take apart on of those charging pads and incorporate it with the phone holder!!
Seeing how you handle the whole anchor situation shows how you don’t know what your doing. The chain is what keeps the boat in place not the anchor meaning you need a considerable larger amount of chain then 20 links🤷♂️. The anchor just helps the chain set. Secondly having a stern anchor for overnight mooring is a recipe for disaster. The boat needs to be able to swing with tides/currents. High risk of capsizing! I don’t know how this boat is still floating with someone of your knowledge maintaining it!!🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Hope you and your mum and dad are ok Chris
Yo there is a video of B is for build under all these ads👀😂
Hugs! Watching my childhood burn in the “creek fire” 30 minutes away. It’s heartbreaking
You need some custom floor mats. They have some that trim to fit that may work. weathertech. I don't think they do custom rubber, try matworks.com/
that navlight bulb is the same one that I just bought for my pathfinder tail lights that I'm about to modify.
I love seeing the marina down in Portland in your videos. It brings back memories of driving down from Canada to visit my family in Portland area. Hope you and your family are okay with the fires, mine are about two hours south of you and things do not look good. Sweet boat, though!
you could have always use a transmition for the anchor.... :P
Many here have warned you about rear anchoring...this may help to drive it home for you: www.nbcbayarea.com/news/sports/anchor-blamed-for-nfl-boat-flip-player-deaths/1887323/#:~:text=An%20agency%20investigating%20a%20deadly,to%20pry%20loose%20the%20anchor.
Please for the love of god do not drop a bow AND stern anchor, its incredibly unsafe and dramatically increases your risk of capsizing. Also when fishing with anchors you only use a bow anchor. Please please take a boating course 🙏🏼 Much love and please stay safe!! Boating is dangerous!
There's lots of applications for stern anchors. Obviously you wouldn't want to that out in open water in big surf, but on a calm river or bay it can be done with no risk. Don't talk about things of which you don't know
I love when people call their POS a yacht lmao
Anyone else's eyes get large when he said they were going to take the Columbia river to open ocean? Lets hope if they go through with it they do some research ahead of time prior to that trip.
Anchor aft is a bad idea. Non-galvanized steel is a bad idea. On a larger boat, length of chain is important on the bow anchor. The actual weight of the chain does most of the work. Merchant Marine Officer.
finalyyyyyy
It would be cool and nice if at someeeee point you upgrade the whole dash. Nice glass dash 👌🏼
Waited over a year for this video
Thats crazy to me that a 30 foot boat with 2 engines isn't aground in 4 feet of water
That's crazy that a 30' boat has 2 diesels.. .my eliminator eagle 230 (23') does just fine with its vortec 8.1....the same motor gm puts in its hd trucks...does 80 mph all day
For restoring the gel coat there is a company called pad Express very good product
