  • I’m guessing the generator is diesel since the engines were, and he will have to build a separate fuel tank for the generator.

  • @BisforBuild YOU GUYS DIDNT BACKPURGE WELD ANY OF YOUR STAINLESS THAT LOOKS LIKE 304. STAINLESS WELDS NEED BACK PURGE WELDING. YOUR WELDS WITH NO BACK PURGE WELDING WILL LOOK LIKE CRYSTALLINE SUGAR, AND WILL NOT BE RUST RESISTANT, IT WILL BE EXTREMELY POROUS AND A SPOT FOR CORROSION TO EAT AWAY AT THE METAL MORE QUICKLY THAN JUST THE 304. ON A SECOND NOTE, 304 IS USELESS IN THE MARINE ENVIRONMENT, YOU NEED MINIMUM 316L. LASTLY, I BELIEVE THAT THE 1/16" WALL TUBING YOU HAVE CHOSEN IS FAR TOO THIN FOR THE ABUSE THAT A BOAT SMACKING WAVES REPEATEDLY WILL SEE OVER ITS LIFE SPAN. IF A WATER JACKETED EXHAUST PIPE WERE TO CRACK OPEN YOUD BE PUMPING THE JACKETED WATER INTO YOUR BOATS HULL AT A VERY HIGH RATE. PLEASE SIMPLY LOOK AT THE PART YOU'RE REPLACING AND THINK TO YOURSELF, WAS THERE A REASON THEY USED SUCH A THICK MATERIAL IN THE FIRST PLACE. SECOND GET A SECOND REGULATOR, AND SOME TIN FOIL AND LEARN TO BACK PURGE YOUR STAINLESS FOR WELDING, ITS REALLY SIMPLE STEPS YOU FOLLOW, AND COST YOU A FEW DOLLARS, LITERALLY ALL YOU NEED IS AN EXTRA REGULATOR AND ARGON TANK.... NO EXCUSE NOT TO BACK PURGE STAINLESS. PERIOD. FOOD FOR THOUGHT. IF YOU SINK THIS BOAT BECAUSE OF A FRAGILE PART YOU BUILT INCOMPETENTLY, THIS VIDEO WILL BE ALL THE EVIDENCE YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY NEEDS TO DENY YOUR CLAIM.

  • I keep wondering why you didn't get the boat towed back to it's berth in your local marina when its engine popped? I'm assuming you still have a space allocated there (And you're still paying for it), so wouldn't it have been cheaper in the long run, and WAY more convenient to have kept it in the water until you were 100% ready to do the engine swaps, and THEN get it lifted? Doesn't your local marina have a crane and a work yard ? Or was this one of those occasions where things needed to happen fast and you had to take the choices that were immediately available at that time? I'm still a bit dubious about going for a petrol (Gas) swap, but it's your project, so your choice. You seem to have been doing your homework, so hopefully it will all turn out well for you.

  • With your spacing issues, have you investigated making exhaust port spacers to move the headers away from the engine thus giving you more clearance around the intake and rocker covers? Though it may necessitate moving the alternator again (maybe rotate them 180 degrees so the connectors are on the top?)...

  • I know nothing about boats. It sounded like he said the exhaust gets mixed with water then dumped out the back? Not filtered, nothing? So just burnt fuel mixed with water being dumped directly into the water? Not saying that's his fault, seems like that'd be common practice if that's how he's doing it. Not cool tho...

  • Everybody thats knocking your decision to go gasoline based vs diesel based dont realize that a shit load of boats had and still have massive gasoline engines and do just fine. I have twin 454 Crusader CID gasoline engines in my 32’ Tiara which push out ~700 crank HP and are super powerful (low end). Gasoline engines can absolutely do the job. Diesel might be a lil more suited for marine applications but regardless gasoline engines do just fine in boats so this is exciting actually for me to see. Boat engines are absolutely massive so its going to be interesting to see how these engines hold out. My biggest concern is not blowing a head gasket while running under prolonged high RPMS (they seem to want to go fast but that bot wasnt really build for speed).

    MikeMike2 päivää sitten
  • O2 sensors don't function below 600 degrees Fahrenheit. Water cooled exhaust manifolds don't retain enough heat, and when I left the marine mechanics trade the ecm's all ran GM controllers in open loop, primarily on S/D, and alpha/N tables.

  • I can hardly wait to see what prop(s) he tries. They’ll run about $1,200 each and have to be spot on matched to boat hull, weight and engine/final drive output to prop diameter, pitch, blade count and blade style. Boat builders will try about 6 before they settle on the right one. It’s not just top speed but just getting there. If that motor is all top end, it may lug or hurt it’s self trying to get there. It’s not like you have different gears to shift or a clutch to slip. Too small of prop and he can’t use full throttle because it’ll over rev. Online boat propeller calculators only get you in the “ball park” with a known marine engine torque curve. Not a “built” performance motor. I hope he gets lucky. On a prop selection only once did I get lucky, and I had a reference prop. Oh, than there’s the haul out fees of 10-15 dollars a foot each time. B.O.A.T. = Break Out Another Thousand. Definition of a boat? A hole in the water in which you pour money into. Good name for a boat? Money Vortex.
